Afzal trapped, raped and converted Hindu Woman [Sitarganj, Uttarakhand]

A shocking case of alleged “Love Jihad” has emerged in Uttarakhand, where a Hindu woman from Sitarganj has accused a man named Afzal of rape and forced conversion. The victim’s harrowing ordeal began when Afzal, posing as a Hindu named Rahul, initiated a relationship with her nearly four years ago when she was a minor. Over time, their relationship progressed, eventually turning physical.

However, the situation took a sinister turn when on November 27 of the previous year, the victim discovered Afzal’s true identity. It is alleged that Afzal, along with his brother Iqrar Ahmed, forcibly confined the victim and coerced her into marrying him and converting to Islam. The victim’s accusations extend to Afzal’s family members as well.

Authorities have taken swift action in response to the victim’s complaint. Afzal Ahmed, Iqrar Ahmed, their father Abrar Ahmed, and mother have been charged under the Uttarakhand Freedom of Religion Act and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The victim underwent a medical examination on May 1 to gather evidence for the case.

This distressing incident sheds light on the broader issue of “Love Jihad,” where individuals from one religious community allegedly deceive and coerce individuals from another community into conversion through romantic relationships. The case underscores the need for stringent measures to protect vulnerable individuals and uphold religious freedom and human rights.

In a related incident on April 25, a separate case was filed against Atharuddin in Haldwani, highlighting similar predatory behavior targeting young Hindu girls. Atharuddin, a mobile shop owner, allegedly harassed a 17-year-old girl, prompting community action against him.

As communities grapple with such incidents, it is imperative for authorities to address the underlying issues and ensure the safety and security of all individuals, regardless of their religious background.
