Arrests Made in Gang Rape Case of Hindu Woman [Lakhipur, Assam]

A disturbing incident has unfolded in the Shiva Tilla area of Lakhipur, Cachar district, Assam, where a married Hindu woman was allegedly abducted and gang-raped by a group of Islamists. Prompt action by law enforcement resulted in the apprehension of the perpetrators, shedding light on the importance of swift justice in cases of sexual violence.

The victim, belonging to the Bishnupriya Manipuri community, was reportedly walking on the street on the morning of March 16th when she was forcibly abducted and subjected to the heinous assault. Upon receiving the complaint, Cachar Police swiftly initiated an investigation, leading to the arrest of four suspects identified as Jamir Uddin Barbhuiya, Samsul Haque Laskar, Abul Hussain Laskar, and Masuk Uddin Barbhuiya.

Jamir Uddin Barbhuiya, the prime accused, attempted to evade arrest and even attacked police officials during the encounter. However, law enforcement personnel managed to restrain him, albeit not without injuries sustained by one of the constables involved.

Speaking on the incident, SP of Cachar, Numal Mahatta, disclosed, “In her statement, the victim disclosed that they attempted to gang-rape her, with the prime accused identified as Jamir Uddin Barbhuiya, a resident of Silchar.” Mahatta further elaborated on the encounter following the arrest, detailing the suspect’s resistance and eventual apprehension.

The swift response by Cachar Police underscores the commitment of law enforcement agencies to ensuring justice for victims of sexual violence and holding perpetrators accountable for their actions.
