Athulya Ashokan, a Hindu influencer from Kerala, made news in the aftermath of the release of the film Kerala Story. Athulya is 23 years old and has over 520k Instagram followers. The significant change in Athulya’s look – a move from her normal pictures displaying traditional dress with bindi, holy ash, and kumkum to abruptly wearing a headscarf upon her marriage to a Muslim guy – sparked the viral buzz around her wedding. Athulya confirmed her married status and announced her wedding to Risal Mansoor in a social media update.

The fact that Athulya changed her name to Alia and converted to Islam added to the wedding’s interest, not just because it was an interfaith union. This was verified by her Instagram stories from her wedding, which showed Alia and Mansoor as the bride and groom’s bames.

In addition, Athulya’s Instagram account featured photos from the wedding that showed the celebrations surrounded by women wearing headscarves. This made her admirers and supporters wonder if she had really experienced a religious conversion.

Athulya Ashokan’s marriage, meantime, provoked conversations in the wake of the film “The Kerala Story,” which tells the story of Keralan women who become radicalised Muslims and join the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). The comments section of Athulya’s nikah photographs conjectured that the love tale had a “love jihad” component, implying a link to “The Kerala Story.”

Twitter users began to endorse the movie and its premise by citing Athulya’s situation as an example. “People who think #TheKeralaStory is a myth, here is a live example for you,” said a person on Twitter. Meet Athulya Ashokan, a Kerala native who converted to Islam and is currently an Alia.

“For those claiming that ‘The Kerala Story’ is a fabricated tale, please take a look at Athulya Ashokan (5 lakhs+ followers),” emphasised another tweet. Her varied circle of friends is depicted in her wedding photos, reflecting the cosmopolitan nature of her life. She was forewarned by several internet users, who also pointed out that she was actually recreating the plot of Kerala Story.

In November 2023, internet users became interested in a story that Athulya (a) Alia had since removed. She posted a worrisome statement that seemed to be a threat to her life. She tagged her Muslim spouse in the narrative, saying, “No one in my family is responsible for anything that happens to me.” Risal Mansoor @marz___12 is the only one.

As soon as Athulya’s devoted fans saw the message, they took screenshots and posted them on various social networking sites. They drew attention to Athulya’s unsettling Instagram tale and raised concerns about her wellbeing by captioning the image with “The Kerala Story Is Real.” Concerned internet users demanded that the Kerala Police look into this grave issue in detail.

Athulya commented on Instagram earlier today, “Here it goes… I’ve been seeing all those posts about our marriage for the past 7 months… First and foremost, the film ‘KERALA STORY’ has nothing to do with it… We met in our hometown, spoke, met again, and fell in love… Until our marriage, none of our friends knew. It came as a complete surprise to everyone. The pictures you were using to make all those cooked up stories are of my high school friends. We don’t even have day-to-day conversations. Like every others we meet once in a while on any functions or reunions. So its time to stop spreading their images.”

The post continues in the second image, “Don’t try to make it about a particular community. Thats shame | Its only about me and him. We were separated for the past one month and emotionally I was too weak. Even if I did something wrong I never wanted my family to suffer anymore. Now I am getting better and I am completely safe. Don’t try to make it a COMMUNAL WAR|”
