(Reported as seen)

A clash between two groups on the campus of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) in Delhi has left three individuals injured, including two students. The incident occurred on Friday evening, resulting in injuries to Adil Khan (24), a resident of Batla House; Zafar (25), a student of JMI; and Saqib (19), also a student.

Officials reported that the clash involved students and ex-students aligned on regional bases, such as Poorvanchal, Western Uttar Pradesh, and Mewat. Tensions between these groups occasionally escalate over trivial matters, further exacerbated by the involvement of non-student individuals.

The police received a call about the quarrel around 8:25 p.m. on Friday, responding to find only bystanders at the scene. Later, information from AIIMS Trauma Centre and Holy Family Hospital confirmed that three individuals sustained injuries during the incident.

The initial investigation revealed that the injuries were allegedly inflicted by individuals named Nabid Hassan, Sharukh Tyagi, Nomal Tyagi, Nomal Ali, Abdul Hassan, Jubair Chaudhary, and Farid Chaudhary during the clash. The police have filed a case under charges of rioting and Section 308 (attempt to culpable homicide) of the Indian Penal Code.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (south-east) Rajesh Deo emphasized the need for the university administration to prevent outsiders from entering the campus and disrupting the environment. Special teams have been formed to apprehend the accused individuals, as the police continue their efforts to maintain peace on the Jamia Millia Islamia campus.
