A Dhaka court has once again placed four accused individuals on a two-day remand in connection with the horrifying case of gang-rape and torture of a young woman who was kept chained in a house in Mohammadpur, the capital city of Bangladesh.

The accused, identified as Sun (the victim’s boyfriend), Himel, Rocky, and Salma alias Jhumur, were produced before the court after their initial three-day remand expired. The investigating officer of the case, Sub-Inspector Farukul Islam, requested a five-day remand for further interrogation.

However, the accused’s lawyers applied for bail to cancel the remand, a plea that was opposed by the state. Following arguments from both sides, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Moinul Islam granted a two-day remand for each accused.

This development comes after the victim, a young Hindu woman, filed a case against the accused at Mohammadpur Police Station on March 31. She accused them of subjecting her to gang rape and physical torture over a span of 25 days while keeping her chained in a house at Nabinagar Housing in Mohammadpur.

The incident came to light when police received a distress call reporting the woman’s screams, prompting them to rescue her from the harrowing ordeal. The victim’s rescue shed light on the brutal realities faced by women, especially from minority communities, and raised concerns about the safety and security of vulnerable individuals.

Despite the gravity of the situation, the case has received limited attention, highlighting the need for increased awareness and action to address such heinous crimes and ensure justice for the victims.

The pursuit of justice in cases like these is essential to uphold the rule of law, protect the rights of individuals, and foster a society where all members can live free from fear and oppression.
