In a distressing incident reported on April 26th, a minor girl from the Scheduled Caste (SC) Hindu community was reportedly subjected to a brutal rape in Hiriyur, Karnataka. The accused, allegedly an Islamic Jihadi, perpetrated this heinous act, sending shockwaves through the community and prompting immediate action from law enforcement authorities.

According to sources, the victim, a young girl belonging to the Dalit community, found herself in a vulnerable situation when she encountered the older brother of her Muslim classmate. Exploiting her innocence, the accused reportedly engaged in predatory behavior, luring her with promises of sweets and biscuits. Subsequently, he allegedly coerced her into sexual acts while they were alone at her grandmother’s residence, where she had relocated for her studies.

The pattern of abuse allegedly continued, with the accused menacingly threatening the victim and forcing her into further sexual encounters. Disturbingly, he also purportedly bombarded her with explicit messages on a daily basis, warning her of dire consequences if she dared to reveal their illicit relationship. The situation reached a tipping point on April 26th when the accused attempted to assault her once again, prompting the victim to resist and alert her mother to the ongoing abuse.

In a commendable display of courage, the victim confided in her mother about the traumatic ordeal she had endured at the hands of the Muslim youth. However, when the family sought justice, they were met with casteist insults and threats of financial reprisal from the accused’s family. Despite facing resistance and intimidation, the family persevered, ultimately filing a complaint with the authorities.

Law enforcement agencies swiftly responded to the complaint, initiating an investigation and apprehending the accused under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act (SC/ST Act).
