In a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves through the community, Neha Hiremath, a 24-year-old student and daughter of Congress Corporator Niranjan Hiremath, was brutally stabbed to death on April 19th at B. V. Bhoomaraddi College of Engineering and Technology in Hubballi. The assailant, identified as Fayaz, allegedly attacked Neha in broad daylight on the college campus, inflicting multiple stab wounds to her neck.

Fayaz, a former classmate of Neha’s, had been lying in wait for her to emerge from the college premises before launching the brutal attack. Armed with a knife, he targeted Neha, leaving her critically wounded and bleeding profusely. Despite efforts to save her, Neha succumbed to her injuries, leaving her family and the community in mourning.

The tragic incident has sparked outrage and condemnation from various quarters. Many have criticized the Congress party’s silence following Neha’s murder, accusing them of prioritizing Islamist interests over their own supporters. Niranjan Hiremath’s recent tweet extending Eid wishes has stirred controversy, with many questioning the party’s stance on religious extremism.

Political leaders, including Karnataka Legislative Assembly member Prasad Abbayya and Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, have visited Neha’s family to offer condolences and support. Calls for justice and stringent action against the accused have intensified, with demands for a thorough investigation into the incident, particularly regarding any possible connections to love jihad.

In response to Home Minister Parameshwara’s statement suggesting that Neha and the assailant were in a relationship, Neha’s father and several politicians have voiced their opposition, emphasizing the need for accountability and justice for Neha’s senseless killing.

ABVP members have staged protests in front of BVB College in Hubballi, demanding justice for Neha and condemning the rising incidents of religious persecution and crimes against Hindus in Karnataka. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has assured that stringent action will be taken against the accused, but the incident has reignited concerns about the safety and security of individuals, particularly women, in the state.

As the investigation continues and calls for justice grow louder, the tragic death of Neha Hiremath serves as a grim reminder of the urgent need to address religious extremism and safeguard the rights and freedoms of all individuals in society.
