Amidst the festive celebrations of Ram Navami, a shocking incident of violence has been reported from Rejinagar in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district. A Ramanavami Shobha Yatra procession, starting from Shaktipur School, came under attack as miscreants pelted stones and hurled bombs at the devotees, resulting in injuries to at least 20 people.

According to reports, the procession was targeted with stones thrown from the roof of a house, escalating the situation and causing panic among the participants. A woman, severely injured in the attack, has been admitted to Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital, while others are receiving treatment in local hospitals.

Following the incident, security forces including CAPF and police personnel were swiftly deployed to the area to restore order, with authorities claiming to have brought the situation under control.

BJP IT Cell Head, Amit Malviya, criticized the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government for failing to protect the Shobha Yatra, pointing out the vulnerability of Hindu devotees in the region. He attributed the attack to provocative speeches made by Mamata Banerjee, calling for the Election Commission of India to intervene and address the targeted violence against Hindus.

Videos of the incident shared on social media platforms depict the severity of the attack, with miscreants seen pelting stones at the procession from rooftops.

The incident comes amidst growing concerns over communal tensions in the region, with Murshidabad being identified as a hotspot for crude bomb-making activities ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. Recent instances of bomb explosions in the area have added to the sense of fear and insecurity among residents.

Despite concerns raised by Hindu organizations and political leaders, tensions have persisted, particularly in light of Mamata Banerjee’s remarks predicting riots on April 17, coinciding with Ram Navami celebrations. While incidents of violence against Ram Navami processions have reportedly decreased this year, the recent attack underscores the need for heightened security measures and swift action to ensure the safety of religious gatherings and minority communities in West Bengal.
